I am thrilled that ‘The Spell of Pencliff’ is the book of the month in World Fashion Media News featured with the amazing Gok Wan, and it was wonderful to receive a message from him on twitter and he shared the worldwide publication.

I was delighted to be interviewed on Made in Cardiff TV  about the ‘Claudia Quash Series’ and to win a ‘Highly Commended’ National Award, in Manchester for ‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ and my charity work.  Also, I am overwhelmed with the support that I have received for the ‘Claudia Quash Series’ from local newspapers, the Tenby Observer, and Cardiff Life Magazine, who regularly feature  Dreams and Wishes Charity and the books and they will be running a full page feature on the 1st December.

Honoured to be one of the winners of the Face of Cardiff Fashion, take part in an amazing fashion photoshoot, receive a VIP invitation to launch Cardiff Fashion Week, and attend the cat walk show.

I am looking forward to a number of book-signing events with the ‘Claudia Quash Series’ before Christmas, particularly the ones taking place at John Lewis, Cardiff, the Tenby Bookshop, West Wales and at the HSBC Bank, Cardiff.  Finally, I am currently working on the second book in ‘The Spell of Pencliff’ series, namely, ‘Claudia Quash and the Cursed Crystal’ which will be released shortly, and ‘Claudia’s Magical Adventures’ a fun-filled activity book that will keep children captivated for hours.

‘Claudia Quash : The Spell of Pencliff’ and ‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ are available on Amazon, Kindle, and as an Audiobook  and via my website   www.wendyhobbs.com

What it is why you do it and how people can get involved.

My journey began with my debut novel, ‘Claudia Quash : The Spell of Pencliff’ a magical adventure inspired by my daughter, also called Claudia and Tenby (Pencliff), a historic town steeped in ancient history in West Wales. The story features the Tudor Merchant’s House, St Catherine’s Island and the famous Ghost Walk. My aim was to create a unique and inspiring character that not only captivated the reader’s imagination, but encouraged children never to give up on their dreams. The story focusses on Claudia Quash, who receives a letter on her thirteenth birthday from beyond the grave from Jasper Ratchet, her great-grandfather, pleading for help.  Claudia travels back in time, makes new friends, chases criminals and faces a dark terror that hovers over the land. If she doesn’t solve the crime she might never return home.

The Spell of Pencliff, is suitable for children aged 8 upwards and adults who enjoy an original fantasy story. Following the publication of the book, I was at a charity event where I donated books to help raise funds. I met Mr Tony Curtis MBE, founder of Dreams and Wishes, who invited me to write a book for the charity, a 100% volunteer, non-profit organisation, dedicated to fulfilling the dreams and wishes of seriously ill children and their families.

I wrote, ‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ and I donated all of the profits to the charity in order to help grant more special memories for very sick children and their families. The book is a beautifully illustrated magical Christmas story that closely related to the charity and gives the children and their families hope. In the story, Claudia Quash, makes a wish on a star and during the night she is whisked away and has an unforgettable adventure.

‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ was launched by the Secretary of State of Wales with the Welsh Guards on the 26th November 2016. On the 14th December 2016, I had the honour of reading the book on behalf of the charity in the House of Commons in the presence of the Speaker of the House of Commons, and I visited 10 Downing Street, London. I have been invited back again this year.

‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ has been a great success, and I have been thrilled that it has raised thousands of pounds for the charity and it has helped to grant more special memories to the children and their families of Dreams and Wishes. Also, the book has enabled me to connect with many kinds of businesses, financial institutions, building societies, banks, accountants and law firms who have purchased copies of the book, and at my suggestion donated them to local schools in order to help the community. I enjoy delivering the books to the schools, reading to the children, helping them to write original stories and encouraging them to fulfil their dreams. In addition, I have received some wonderful support for my book-signing events from departmental stores and the Tenby book shop. ‘Claudia’s Special Wish’ really is a magical book because it helps to grant wishes to children who often endure many painful treatments and can spend long periods of time in hospital. I love visiting Rainbow Ward at the University Hospital of Wales, donating books and reading to the children in order to pass the time. Also, I have successfully encouraged many children’s authors from around the world to donate books which I read to the children.

My ambition is to use my writing and the character Claudia Quash to inspire children and to help to raise funds for very sick children. I now donate all of the profits from the ‘Claudia Quash Series’ to Dreams and Wishes in order to help children and their families who may be going through a very difficult time.

It is an honour to work with Dreams and Wishes, a charity dedicated to making children’s dreams and wishes come true. Since it began in 2011, they have been working with families across the UK, providing vital support throughout the child’s illness as well as helping to build happy memories by granting lifelong wishes. Experiencing serious illness at any age is devastating for both the person and the family, but for a child it is unimaginable. The charity wants to be able to help as many children as possible, and Dreams and Wishes relies on the support and generosity of the general public and businesses around the UK.
